Papaw’s Greasy Bean Seed – the timeless legacy that’s been our family’s sustenance and livelihood for generations. These beans aren’t just a crop; they’re a part of our story, providing both nourishment and financial support across the years.

Greasy beans, a distinguished Pole Bean variety, come with a bit of Appalachian charm. Stringing and snapping are part of the process – a hands-on tradition that connects us to the land and the generations before us.

Why “greasy”? Well, it’s all about that shine – the glossy, not dull, appearance of their shell. Their flavor? Oh, it’s something else, richer than your average bean. These beans are Appalachian through and through, standing out from the crowd. They’re a family thing, each of the very few families in the area who produce them have their own variety and secrets to growing kept close and passed down through the years. You won’t find these gems just anywhere – they’re an Appalachian thing.

Each package contains 20-25 seeds

These seeds are suited to most growing environments where greenbeans generally grow well.

They are sown here in zone 6B Southwestern Virginia the week of Mother’s Day and their first yields are plucked from the vine the last week of July- first week of August so they do take a bit longer than your typical 55-60 day bean.

They will bloom and rebloom all season until frost.

These are soaked and then sown in the right signs in the bean rows as usual.  They are a POLE variety not a bush bean.
